Glacier skiing is among the most spectacular, demanding, and rewarding experiences the Alps can offer—and certainly not something for everyone. This gallery documents a true high-alpine adventure about 13 km south of Verbier, where preparation, fitness, skill, and trust in experienced guides are absolutely essential. Before entering such terrain, guests undergo off-piste assessments and training sessions to evaluate skiing ability and comfort in deep and ungroomed snow. Only once fully prepared does the real journey begin.
Equipped with avalanche rescue equipment, harnesses, ropes, crampons, shovels, radios, food, and water, guests are accompanied by a licensed ski instructor, a certified mountain guide, and a mountain guide apprentice. This particular experience started with a breathtaking helicopter flight from Le Châble/Val de Bagnes to Petit Combin on 3’663 meters, offering a spectacular view of Mont Blanc with 4’808 meters, the highest peak of the Alps, as seen on the picture above. From there, the descent led across the magnificent Corbassière Glacier, skiing between deep crevasses, through steep narrow gullies, and alongside massive rock formations in a world of raw alpine beauty few people will ever experience.
After crossing the glacier terrain, the adventure continued with a physically demanding uphill hike over the next ridge before transitioning back into another long downhill ski section, finally reaching the Route de Mauvoisin. Exhausting, emotional, and unforgettable – this is skiing in its purest and most authentic form.
